Oil on Wood
24in Diameter
Last Ramadan I couldn't shake the feeling of being utterly out of touch with Allah. I would set out on these long solo evening walks when the sky was a canvas of warm hues and the air carried confidential discussions between me and god.
The sun dipped low, casting shades of pink and gold and I believe it was at that moment when I felt connected to Allah through color. I hadn’t painted in 2 years at the time. I realized that the longer I’d go without painting, without following my passion and purpose, the further I’d find myself from Allah.
In those moments of uncertainty and disconnect, I felt compelled to translate the chaos within me onto this canvas.
This painting illustrates the words of an Urdu Ghazal sung by Abida Parveen: "I saw my beloved in all I saw, at times apparent and at times hidden." This line became the heartbeat of the painting, a beacon of awakening amid the daze. The canvas tells a story of finding connection and solace in the divine midst of life's intricate landscape.
